Stray Rescue of St. Louis, an LGC grant recipient, began 21 years ago as a dog grooming and walking business. The not-for-profit organization has morphed into a dog and cat rescue operation located near Lafayette Square in St Louis City. It is a “no kill” shelter that currently has about 350 animals in its system, most are housed with foster families. About 10 years ago the Bagey family donated a building to house Stray Rescue.

Ladue Garden Club awarded a grant to provide landscaping materials for Stray Rescue’s four gardens. LGC’s past president Laure Hullverson provided the designs for the gardens. Currently, two of the gardens are installed and feature “sensory areas” for the dogs. These gardens utilize herbs and French lavender. The Bagey Garden is planned for the third phase and will incorporate giant cornflowers, Arrowwood viburnum, honeysuckle vine, and other native plants. The gardens are maintained by volunteers and will be expanded with a fourth phase installation next year.
