Coeur Academy is a new grant recipient for Ladue Garden Club. The school was started by Ann Deddens who was a Special Education teacher at Spoede Elementary School in Ladue. Most students attending the school have Down syndrome or autism. Landscape designer Martha Baur designed the raised garden beds and will do the installation of the garden this spring. This includes the garden area with irrigation and the beds will be wheelchair accessible.

Teaching life skills is a very important part of Couer Academy’s curriculum. The garden will provide hands-on experience. The students will learn nutrition, science, and the thrill of growing and cooking their own foods. Students attend the school year round so harvesting the vegetables throughout the summer will not be a problem.

The Grants Committee is very pleased to be funding this amazing project!
